National Model: The Arts

Woodward Academy students are immersed in performing and visual arts beginning in the earliest grades, when we provide the time, resources, and loving guidance to allow them to express themselves creatively while gaining a foundation in the arts.

In Middle and Upper School, our students are able to hone their talents in programs that equal those of colleges and universities, learning from teachers who are accomplished professional artists, musicians, and performers. Along the way, students gain self-awareness, skills that enhance their academics, and an appreciation for the culture and history of art. Because of the strength of our curriculum and broad range of offerings, our talented individual students and performance ensembles receive local, state, and national recognition in the visual and performing arts. They graduate and go on to attend the nation’s most prestigious art colleges and to pursue careers in the fine, applied, and performing arts.

Our visual and performing arts courses include:

Advanced Painting / Drawing / Sculpture / Fiber Arts / Film Photography / Year-round Middle School Art / Symphonic Winds / Dance / Guitar / Electronic Music / String Machine / Philharmonia / Concert Band / Advanced Acting / Theatre Tech / Broadcast-Video Production / Choraliers / Camerata / Festival Singers / Jazz Choir

“We find the students from Woodward Academy to have an incredible amount of artistic talent. And we know from our history that Woodward students also can handle the rigors of our academic curriculum.”
